Personality & Traits

General Overview Lhaerth is an informal man with a tendency to not take life very seriously. Until recently, he considered that his career was in permanent shambles and so he didn't worry overmuch about the sorts of impressions he makes on people. His attitude is often seen as inappropriate in a culture where serious devotion to duty is the ideal. On the other hand, his carefree ways can be alluring and intoxicating for the same reason.

Personal History Like many Romulans of common stock, Lhaerth has no house name, instead taking his second name from the place where he was born. Pollar colony was an expanding colony with an orbital shipyard during Lharth's youth, and he would often take trips with his classmates up to the shipyard and gawk at the vessels taking shape there. It was during these youthful trips that he determined to become an engineer.

His parents supported him with gusto, their own jobs (his father was a home builder and his mother was a school teacher) being lower-class than the future Lhaerth anticipated for himself. It would be a boon to the family if their son entered a more technical field. He turned out to have the aptitude for it, and was shunted into technical training when he entered his compulsory military service.

Training went well, and Lhaerth qualified for officer training, a difficult task for one of common stock. Upon graduating from the Imperial War College, he was assigned to the IRV Venerix as a junior singularity officer. His service was adequate and his career was unremarkable and routine. As he neared the middle of his required 5 year service term, he had a dalliance with an Admiral's daughter, earning extreme displeasure and reassignment to a fringe starbase of little import.

Spending the war at this remote outpost, his job was to receive the remains of mortally wounded starships, strip them for useful parts, and then condemn the remainder for basic recycling. At first, he would have liked to retire from service. Unfortunately, due to the war and losses related to it, he was required to continue service.

Over time, his compulsory duty transformed into a career, and one he was content to enjoy. He had always wanted to work on starships, and now such work was a long-term occupation. True, he was taking them apart instead of putting them together, but it kept him busy and entertained enough. Life on a starbase was easy, the food was good, and there was nobody of particular import that he needed to avoid. Offending an Admiral turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to him. It assured him a simple life of simple pleasures, doing something he enjoyed with minimal personal risk.

Then the Hobus disaster shattered the Empire. Romulus and Remus were gone. Central Command was in disarray. The order came from on-high. Every available ship was to be pressed into service. Every available crewman and officer was to be found, with even long-retired officers being reactivated. Lhaerth found himself ordered to stop stripping down the Dominion war wreck he was working on. Instead, he was to get her operational again. Worse, due to the severe shortage of qualified personnel, he was being pressed back into starship duty- as her Senior Singularity officer.

Military History During service aboard the Venerix, Lhaerth was seen as both competent and unremarkable. He enjoyed his duties and showed aptitude for them, but was never placed in a position of great challenge where he might have the chance to shine (or fail miserably.) On his later assignment to starbase duty, Lhaerth's job was also without serious challenges. He performed his job competently, without accolades or complaints.
Service Record 2370 Enrolled in Imperial Academy at age 20 after completing primary and secondary schools and some university education angled towards a military career, with preparatory courses suited to accelerated training.

2372 Completed accelerated officer training course at the Imperial War College, assigned to the Venerix as a junior Singularity Officer.

2373 Reassigned to Starbase duty by personal recommendation of Admiral Melevek. Assigned as officer in charge of Starship Reclamation- a menial and boring technical position.

2387 While in the midst of stripping down the war wreck Imperiax, is ordered to rehabilitate her instead and is assigned (much to his surprise) as her Senior Singularity Officer.
