Medical Care

Mission: The Choices We Make
Location: Field Outpost, Outer Edge of the Gavarian Corridor
Timeline: 11th d. of 2nd m. of Air, y. 1940 AS

Lyirru woke to a buzz of activity. It took him a few moments to focus on where he was. He was laying in a bed in what seemed to be a medical bay. The activity drew his attention to the centre of the room where Doctors and Nurses surrounded the main surgical bed. They seemed to be battling to save a life.

More injured arrived through the main doors. Some on medi-beds, others walking wounded.

"The T'Kassan has just docked at the station. They've taken heavy damage and have a lot of wounded." Lyirru over heard one of the nurses as she pulled the medi-bed into the medical bay.

"Let's clear some of these stable ones onto the ward." A doctor said as he began directing patients to different areas.

A nurse approached Lyirru's bed. "Good to see you're finally awake, Centurion. We're going to move you away from the chaos and onto a ward." She said with a smile before turning to the porter. "Take him to prosthetics ward."

'Prosthetics!' Lyirru thought to himself. "Why am I going there?"

The nurse turned back to him, "I'm so sorry, I thought you knew. You lost your left leg from the knee down. When you came in here we almost lost you from blood loss."

All of a sudden, the memories came flooding back of the moment when the Araram was hit by a volley of enemy weapons fire and one of the support struts fell on top of Lyirru, severing his lower leg from his body and pinning him to the floor. If it wasn't for Sublieutenant Eren, he would have been killed when the ship was destroyed.

Lyirru nodded, "Yes, I remember now." He replied weakly.

"We managed to stop the bleeding and repair the damage that was caused. You'll need further surgery to fit a prosthetic limp." Replied the nurse as she patted him on the shoulder. "Don't worry, our surgeons are best in the fleet. You won't even know you have one."

The porter then moved Lyirru onto a medi-bed before moving him onto the right ward. He wondered if his life would ever be the same again.
